Maybe if I could get an idea of how I can use the scripts in RegCM/bin for postprocessing to get dailies /monthly files? I would be very grateful for a step-by-step process to prepare final files that I can analyse, differentiate, calculate biases etc using Grads thereafter. Could someone please kindly guide me with the process say from completing the simulation and I have my SRFxxxxx.nc in output directory. I have installed most of them but still have problems addressing my previous problems such as viewing precip, air temp, winds in SRFxxxxx.nc and vertical variables in ATMxxxxx.nc. It doesn't seem to simulate much beyond basic G-code movement, depending on your control or programming style this could be an issue.I have read most of the reference on Post processing and how it can help with analysis. NC viewer looks ok from a quick once-over, but I would have a hard time trusting it without a lot of testing. Vericut is quite expensive and time consuming to set up, so if you're on a BobCAD budget it may not be an option for you.

Vericut is the main one that seems to be trusted by high end machine shops, there may be others (perhaps CATIA or NX have extensions to do this if you have deep enough pockets?).

As a result, there are specialty programs designed to do just this (machine simulation from G-code using full emulation of different makes/models of control).

That said, this is a pretty common thing to want to do, especially when you get to 5-axis work or other very complex machining operations. I have seen some cam programs do this (Alphacam, which I would not recommend), but it was extremely simplified and error-prone to the point of being useless for any real verification.

Just imagine the support call " Your simulation told me the g code would work fine, but now I've destroyed my machine and injured my operator, WTF!". Not only would it be a major programming task, I imagine it would be hell to support, which is probably the real reason CAM programs don't really do G-code verification. Because in order to accurately simulate what an arbitrary input of G-code is going to do, the CAM program would need to emulate all the control logic performed by the CNC machine itself. It's actually a nontrivial task to reverse this (turn postprocessed g-code back into the simplifed g-code the CAM program used to simulate). The postprocessor takes this and interprets it into a form that the CNC control can understand. The simulation mode in the cam program (that you use when programming and prior to outputting g-code with a post processor) uses a simplifed, abstracted version of G-code. Ok, this is one of those things that seem very simple but are actually not a simple problem to solve.
